Understanding GPRS: the GSM packet radio service
The general packet radio service (GPRS), a data extension of the mobile telephony standard GSM is emerging as the ®rst true packet-switched architecture to allow mobile subscribers to bene®t from high-speed transmission rates and run data applications from their mobile terminals. A high-level description of the GPRS system is given with emphasis on services and architectural aspects. Ó 2000 Els...
متن کاملAnalysis of the General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) of GSM as Access to the Internet
The General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) of the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) is designed for packet switched data transmission and is a mean of mobile access to packet data networks, e.g. the Internet. Packet switched transmission is inherently better suited for bursty traffic as it is generated by typical Internet applications primarily WWW, FTP and e-mail. A simulator is prese...
متن کاملGSM Phase 2+ General Packet Radio Service GPRS: Architecture, Protocols, and Air Interface
The General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a new bearer service for GSM that greatly improves and simplifies wireless access to packet data networks, e.g., to the Internet. It applies a packet radio principle to transfer user data packets in an efficient way between mobile stations and external packet data networks. This tutorial gives an introduction to GPRS. The article discusses the system a...
متن کاملPrototyping and Formal Requirement Validation of GPRS: A Mobile Data Packet Radio Service for GSM
A methodology and an experience for validating a substantial part of a mobile data standard, ETSI’s General Packet Radio Service, is presented. The standard was specified in LOTOS, which provided a formal prototype for the system. Testing processes were composed with the specification, and temporal logic properties were checked. At least two major design errors were identified.
متن کاملThroughput and buffer analysis for GSM General Packet Radio Service (GPRS)
The Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) Phase 2+ standard specifies a new type of packet data service called General Packet Radio Service (GPRS). GPRS allows the dynamic allocation of bandwidth resources. Wireless channels are allocated to a mobile terminal based on its traffic demands. Thus results in better resource utilization compared to the circuit-based data services. In general...
